Vadose zone has been defined as a layer between soil surface and water table. The root zone is a part of vadose zone. In Iraq, a shallow vadose zone occurs due to high water table where soil root and its environment occurs in the zone and brings the attention of scientists of agricultural, environmental and biological sciences. The processes of water distribution and the redistribution occur mainly under unsaturated conditions. Theoretical basis to measure physical processes that involved in controlling plant available water in the root zone is the water balance equation. Seriously, It seems there is exists poor comprehension at applying of basic principles of soil physics and hydrology for water balance studies in vadose zone, particularly among graduate students. In addition to that, there is a lack at comprehension of using methodology and instrumentation of measuring required parameters of soil-plant to obtain right data in right time. This lecture intended to clear the clouds between scientists and graduate students to solve the soil water balance equation at field scale and to perform required calculations as a condition to obtain acceptable results.
